Christian McCaffrey injury update: 49ers RB says he’s ‘feeling great’ and ready to begin training for the 2025 season

Good news for the San Francisco 49ers and anyone who didn’t draft him in the first round of their fantasy football draft this past season: Christian McCaffrey says he’s “feeling great” and ready to begin training for the 2025 NFL season.

“I’m excited,” McCaffrey told NBC Sports Bay Area’s Jennifer Chan on Monday. “I think we are all pissed off in the right ways. I think that’s a good place to be,” McCaffrey added, referring to the frustration shared by himself, his fellow players and the coaching staff 49ers team, who look like they will finish last place in the NFC West with a current record of 6-11.

McCaffrey’s season ending injury came during a tackle that slammed his right knee into the ground during their Week 13 loss to the Buffalo Bills, injuring his posterior cruciate ligament. He played only four games this season but is reportedly fully healed after five weeks of rehab and recovery.

“Definitely close,” McCaffrey said of the timetable to a fully recovered PCL. “We are trending in the right direction. With available time now, we just want to respect that whole process, but everything is going really well. I’m feeling great, progressing really well.”

Fantasy footballers might not want to count McCaffrey out just yet, even if he has the stigma of being injury prone at this point. The 5’11,” 250-pound, 28-year-old is still at the age of peak production for an NFL running back and he claims he’ll have a chip on his shoulder going into the 2025 season.

“I think for me, it’s always probably pretty salty, but not in a bad way,” McCaffrey said about his demeanor going into 2025. “I think when you have a lot of success for a couple of years in a row and then you get humbled quick, it’s a good reminder of what it takes to be good in this league.

“Not that we needed a reminder, but I’m just excited for the offseason to get everyone a little rest, get healthy again and come back ready to go with a full year in front of us.”
