Amon-Ra St. Brown wants a Lions vs. Eagles opening game in 2025

After having a phenomenal 15-2 season, clinching the NFL North, and getting their star running back, David Montgomery back from injury just in time, The Detroit Lions looked like they had destiny on their side heading into the 2024 NFL playoffs.

One of the most highly anticipated match-ups heading into the 2024 NFL postseason was the Lions vs. the 14-3 NFC East champions, the Philadelphia Eagles, but alas, the football gods decided that for the Lions, a 2024 Super Bowl championship wasn’t destined to be after all.

Despite that, Lions star receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown still wants the Lions vs. Eagles match-up that we never got in the 2024 season… to kick off the 2025 season.

“Eagles have the home opener next year because they won the Super Bowl,” St. Brown said on his podcast. “Can I read you the list of teams that could be in that first game? Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Lions, Raiders, Rams, Broncos. Out of all those teams, if you’re the NFL, who are you putting in there?”

St. Brown believes that with a defense that’s been rested and recovered over the offseason, the Lions can prowl into Philly and make a statement by beating the reigning Super Bowl champions right in their own backyard.

“That’s what I’m saying,” St. Brown said, agreeing with his brothers who both believed the Lions could beat the Eagles in the 2025 opener. “So we might be playing at Lincoln Financial Field. You would see with our healthy defense, how that s— operates.”

St. Brown then admitted that although the 2024 season for the Detroit Lions was an injury-riddled one, he wasn’t making excuses for the team.

“We had hella injuries, not an excuse, I’m just saying,” he said.

The 25-year-old St. Brown finished the 2024 season with 115 receptions, 1,263 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns, solidifying another stellar season with Detroit.

Do you agree with Amon-Ra St. Brown that a Lions vs. Eagles opening game in 2025 would be the best option to kick off the season? Let us know in the comments.
