Karrion Kross on the different roles in the WWE and making the most of every opportunity: “Tonight could be that night that changes the direction of your career, but you need to be ready for it”

Though he stands at 6’4,” 265 pounds, is solid in the ring, can hold his own on the mic and is a former NXT Heavyweight Champion (he also has his beautiful wife Scarlett accompany him to the ring), for one reason or another Karrion Kross hasn’t resonated with fans in the WWE the way you’d expect for a pro wrestler of his caliber. All of this might be turning around however, with Kross appearing more frequently on Monday Night Raw, particularly lurking in sinister fashion in the background of backstage segments featuring big name stars like Seth Rollins and AJ Styles.

Kross has also been active on Twitter, putting together entertaining vignettes and videos such as this one mocking Sami Zayn for the injury he received at the hands of Kevin Owens:

Kross recently sat down on the “Geeking out with Matt Serra” podcast to talk about his new book “Life is Fighting,” where the topic turned to Kross’ role in the company at this point and where he sees his character going narrative-wise.

“You have this company, and it’s worth billions, right? And you have public shareholders, and you don’t want to hire anything less than the best of the best,” Kross explained. “You have a whole roster full of people that are incredible. Some people, for lack of better words, they get [cast] as background, some people get [cast] as supporting actors, and then some people are the leads.”

While Kross conceded that his character is in more of a background/supporting role at the moment, he noted that storylines can easily shift in the WWE and that when the time comes, he’ll be more than willing and able to step up. In the meantime however, he’ll make the most of the opportunities he’s been given.

“I’m gonna show them I can be that guy,” Kross asserted. “The way I look at it, Monday Night ‘Raw’ tonight could be that night that changes the direction of your career, but you need to be ready for it.”

Kross was also asked who he thought was the “toughest” individual in the WWE.

“Everybody in that locker room is really, really, really tough because how do you measure what tough is? Well if you’re working a 25 minute match, you’re out there landing on your back and your head for 25 minutes. That’s how I would measure who’s really tough. Maybe toughest right now, I’m trying to think of who Gunther’s been beating up. We have a world champion, he’s gigantic, he’s a very large human being and he just chops meat out there.”

When asked who from the Monday Night Raw roster he’d want on his side in a bar fight, he gave an answer that might be surprising to some:

“Chad Gable, so he’s got an amateur background. He’s 100% legit, he’s won nationals and state and a gold medal and stuff like that. He transitioned into pro wrestling, I would say him because he’s a lunatic.”

Do you agree with Karrion Kross on the different roles in the WWE? Do you think that part of becoming a WWE superstar is making the most of the opportunities given, even if you are fulfilling a certain background role or supporting role in the company? Let us know in the comments.
