The Seattle Seahawks offense is going to look drastically different next season — in particular, the Hawks’ receiving corps, as longtime star wide receivers DK Metcalf (signed a five year deal with the Steelers) and Tyler Lockett (released after ten seasons with the team) are parting ways with the team and Cooper Kupp and Marquez Valdes-Scantiling will be stepping in to join Jaxson Smith-Njigba. They’ll also be joined by new team quarterback Sam Darnold as well as new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, which means that in many ways the 2025 season will be a brand-new beginning for the Seahawks offense.
Valdes-Scantling emphasized this clean slate for the Hawks offense while talking to reporters on Thursday, revealing that he and Kupp aren’t looking to replicate what has been done by past Seahawks receivers; rather, he’s hoping for the overhauled Hawks offense to forge its own identity.
“You don’t try to fill those shoes,” the 30-year-old Valdes-Scantling said, via the Seahawks website. “You can’t do that. You go out and you be the best version of yourself and whatever that looks like is what it looks like. . . . You can’t really recreate something that’s only created once. You just go out and be the best version of yourself and it’s gotta be enough.”

Valdes-Scantling also expressed his excitement to be reunited with Kubiak, whom he played under in New Orleans.
“I’m very excited,” Valdes-Scantling said of playing for Kubiak once again. “I was only [In New Orleans] for eight games and put up some pretty big numbers in a short amount of time with two head coaches and through three quarterbacks. I’m grateful for this opportunity. I’m super excited with what Klint has done and what his offense looks like.”
Valdes-Scantling also revealed that Kubiak is a big reason for why he signed with the Seahawks for the 2025 season.
“I think that was all Klint. We were together in New Orleans and when he took the job here, I think it was a great fit. Obviously, they lost some really good receivers, so it kind of opened the door for me to come in and kind of step in.”
Kubiak, Sam Darnold and the Seahawks offense are hoping that Valdes-Scantling’s blazing speed (he recorded a 4.37-second 40-yard dash at the 2018 NFL Combine) and big play explosiveness (he has 22 career catches of 40+ yards since entering the league seven seasons ago) will help to solidify a new chapter in the Seahawks offense’s history.
Valdes-Scantling won two Super Bowls (LVII and LVIII) with the Kansas City Chiefs. He signed with the Buffalo Bills in 2024 but had limited impact with the team and was released mid-season. After being picked up by the Saints, he had 19 receptions for 411 yards and 4 touchdowns in just 8 games.
