Mercedes Mone’s AEW debut made her “feel like Stone Cold Steve Austin”

Mercedes Mone still hasn’t given an official explanation for why she left the WWE one year ago (because “that’s just the classy boss she is”) and a return to the company where she was formerly known as Sasha Banks isn’t going to happen anytime soon, considering Mone premiered with All Elite Wrestling a few days ago at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts for the Big Business edition of AEW Dyanamite.

Mercedes, who could also be seen an additional night at TD Garden, this time as part of the crowd for the Boston Celtics game against the Phoenix Suns on Thursday, explained what it felt like to debut for AEW in front of her home crowd of Boston in a recent interview.

“It was unbelievable,” Mone told Variety. “I still haven’t gotten to take everything in yet, but my heart was just pounding out of my chest. Once I heard the beat drop in the music and the ‘CEO’ chants were on the screens, and then they revealed the ‘Mercedes Moné’ name, that eruption was so electric. I felt so cool. I felt like Stone Cold Steve Austin, when fans just lift up all their signs and stand up with their arms raised. I felt so cool. It was the best feeling in the world.”

Although the Mercedes Mone AEW debut was certainly electric, the thirty-two-year old has already drawn some ire backstage because of some comments she made concerning her future plans in pro wrestling, which include a return to the WWE. According to wrestling analyst Dave Meltzer on a recent episode of his Wrestling Observer Radio podcast, there was a segment cut from an interview Mone conducted on the Kick Rocks podcast with Evan T Mack, one which made it seem like she didn’t view the AEW as a permanent home.

“Regarding WWE, she said, ‘I know I’m gonna be back there one day. Like I said, I have a lot of unfinished business in a lot of places.’ Boy did this one rub a lot of people the wrong way,” Meltzer said. “Time will tell, and quite frankly she should always have it in her mind the possibility of going to WWE, but saying so days before she’s about to start in AEW wouldn’t be the right time politically to say that. There is a reality that some people consider AEW as the place they want to be and some see it as a place to make money until getting the call to come back. The latter group has in general been more of a detriment to the company.”
