Jamahal Hill on getting challenged by Alex Pereira: ‘He should really focus on Izzy because he was getting his a– whooped’

Newly-crowned UFC light-heavyweight champion Jamahal Hill (7-1 MMA, 4-0 UFC) thinks that Alex Pereira (12-1 MMA, 6-1 UFC), who recently defeated Israel Adesanya for the UFC Middleweight championship at UFC 281 in November, should focus on his own weight class. More specifically, he thinks Pereira should heed his upcoming scheduled rematch with Adesanya at UFC 287 on April 8th before he starts issuing any new challenges — like the challenge that Pereira issued to Hill following Hill’s defeat of Pereira’s mentor, Glover Teixeira, by way of unanimous decision.

Pereira threw shade at Hill in the comments section of the latter’s recent Instagram post, which featured Hill challenging former light heavyweight champion Jiri Prochazka, who is currently injured. Pereira seemed to hint at moving up a weight class to challenge Hill, saying, “I heard [Prochazka] is injured. What about knocking me out?”

Pereira was present in Teixeira’s corner for the Hill and Teixeira fight, and could be seen staring “Sweet Dreams” down following his victory.

β€œI think he should probably focus on Izzy because he was getting his a– whooped for a good majority of that fight last time before he won,” Hill said in a sit-down with The Schmo.

Pereira was down on the scorecards going into the fifth round before he pulled off an upset TKO with a flurry of punches two minutes and one second in.

Hill believes that Adesanya will reclaim his title when he rematches Pereira on April 8th.

β€œHe had some things happen for him like the leg (kick) check at the end,” Hill explained. β€œI think if Izzy just throws hands – just box him; just be quick and outbox him – he’ll win.”

Judging from his IG callout, all signs point towards Hill facing Jiri Prochazka for his next fight, although since Prochazka’s return timetable is still unknown, he may find someone else to defend his light-heavyweight championship against in the meantime.

Do you agree with the comments made by Jamahal Hill on getting challenged by Alex Pereira? Should Pereira worry about his rematch with Israel Adesanya before he tries to think about cahllenging Hill? Let us know in the comments.
